Image Compressor
Shrink JPG and PNG file size without uploading anything.
About the Image Compressor
Large photos slow down websites and are hard to email. This image compressor shrinks a picture to a much smaller file by lowering the JPEG quality you choose. Because it runs in your browser, your photo never leaves your device.
How to use the Image Compressor
- Click Choose an image and select a JPG, PNG or WebP file.
- Move the Quality slider. Lower numbers make a smaller file.
- Compare the original and compressed sizes shown on the page.
- Click Download compressed to save the new .jpg file.
Good to know
- Quality between 60 and 80 usually gives a big saving with little visible change for photos.
- The result is always saved as a JPG. Transparent areas in a PNG become white.
- Smaller images load faster, which helps web page speed and visitors on slow mobile connections.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. The image is processed locally in your browser using your own device.
Why did my PNG become a JPG?
JPG compresses photos much better than PNG. If you need to keep transparency, use the Image Converter to save as PNG or WebP instead.
Will compression reduce quality?
Yes, a little. JPG compression removes some detail. Choose a higher quality number if you see blur or blocky areas.
