Slug Generator
Turn a title into a clean SEO-friendly URL slug.
About the Slug Generator
A slug is the readable last part of a web address, like "best-free-online-tools" in a blog URL. This slug generator converts a title into a short, clean slug that is easy to read and share, and is a good fit for search engines.
How to use the Slug Generator
- Type or paste your page title into the box.
- The slug appears below automatically.
- Press Copy and use it as the URL for your page or post.
Good to know
- The tool makes everything lowercase, removes accents from letters such as é and ñ, and replaces spaces and symbols with single hyphens.
- Only the letters a to z and the digits 0 to 9 are kept. Letters from other alphabets, such as Urdu or Arabic, are removed, so write an English slug for those pages.
- Shorter slugs are easier to read. Remove filler words like "the" and "and" when you can.
Frequently asked questions
Why are hyphens better than underscores in URLs?
Google treats hyphens as word separators, so "free-tools" reads as two words. Underscores can join the words together.
Should I change a slug after the page is published?
Avoid it. If you must, set up a redirect from the old address to the new one so you do not lose visitors or rankings.
Is there a length limit?
There is no strict limit, but 3 to 6 words is a good target for readability.
